Copydbwoy Presents Podcast Part 39: DJ Wisk UK Garage Guest Mix & Interview

Me Presenting DJ Wisk, 32 years old, Birmingham based DJ since 1997. 100% UK flavored selector that comes from oldschool Jungle, Drum and Bass, Speed Garage, House & UK Garage.

Copydbwoy: Loving what you do mate. I partially introduced you to my listeners. Could you tell, is there any story behind your name?

DJ Wisk: Used to do Graffiti when I was younger, tried to think of a word / name that was original which is hard because most you think of have been used or are being used by other writers. I thought of wisk because of the letters and it was nice to write & piece. This then just became my nickname and no one really called me by my real name anymore so when I started DJing it was an easy choice especially when Wisk means to mix / blend, so it just worked.

Copydbwoy: Wisk is a good word, indeed. It sounds and looks great.

Copydbwoy: Tell about your DJ process.

DJ Wisk: I generally play what I like, I don't like to be pigeon holed and as you will see from this set I can change things up quiet easily, switching from house to garage to grime to bassline etc. I would say at the moment my sets mainly consist of house & garage. Garage being all types, old, new, 4x4, 2 step, bassline, speed garage the lot. I will do the odd Drum & Bass set if needed, or even an hour of UB40 vinyl after a few drinks with DJ Beat, haha!

DJ Wisk: I obviously don't agree with sync button DJs! I agree you have to move with the times which is why I choose to use Serato, Vinyl or CD (which ever is available), this way I can still switch to vinyl if needed.

Copydbwoy: Your selections and mixing skills are reasons to support and recommend you to friends. Each second of your mixes are pure pleasure. It's probably a Birmingham thing how you switch between moods. You easily jump from sweet vocal track to bassline heavy stricrly Birmingham flavored, angry stuff. And vice versa.

Copydbwoy: Could you name any of your influences?

DJ Wisk: My influences are obviously the main man himself DJ EZ who has been supporting mine and Beats remix of 'All I do' pretty much every show for a month and a half on Kiss100. Other DJs / Producers I'd say Jason Kaye, Todd Edwards, Martin Larner, Norris Windross, Karl Brown, MJ Cole, Matt Jam Lamont Mike ruff cut Lloyd, Rossi B & Luca, Tuff Culture, Cause & Affect, & way too many more to list sorry!

Copydbwoy: Man is legend. Great to hear that!

Copydbwoy: Do you have any goals as artist?

DJ Wisk: Just keep progressing, more bookings (abroad too!), more time in the studio and more plays of my tracks on the big stations.

Copydbwoy: I'm dreaming of doing a night. You'll be the first whom I'll book. If you not gonna be scared of going to Ukraine, haha!

DJ Wisk: Big up Copydboy for having my mix on this podcast and for pushing UKG and the people / DJs behind the new wave. Shout to my Birmingham crew, watch this space...

Copydbwoy: Maximum respect to you and people around you. Also big thanks and shouts to our listeners. We love what you do. People is the main reason why we do what we do. Regards!
